Getting to Know You

Getting to Know You

I never really had any nicknames in my life. People might call me Mo because Moises is too difficult to pronounce for them, but besides that nothing really. As a kid I really was not into sports because I was a big boned, if you want to call it that, however that changed over time. When I hit my teen years I started doing random sports just to get in shape such as cross country, baseball, volleyball and the one I currently do and so far have enjoy the most, Crossfit. I have been doing Crossfit for about a year now, as I was introduced to it while doing Olympic style weightlifting by some friends. I guess it is pretty simple to have an idea of what I do in my free time and yes is it weightlifting. I am very passionate about the sport; I watch it, read books about techniques and all that, I have even competed in it. I participated in the 2015 Crossfit open, as well as the Bergen county championships where I got first place in the 77kg class and also best lifter overall, and my last competition which was the NJ State Championship where I got first place in the 77kg class, 16-17 year old age class. So yes, weightlifting and school is my life.
I usually write in two ways it depends on the situation. If I am writing about a topic I enjoy and I am knowledgeable about, the words just kind of flow as I write. The other way is if I am writing a class paper or anything that is going to be graded, I usually will brain storm and create an outline  before starting to write.
My experience with writing in High School, I will say was pretty good. I came from the Dominican Republic in 8th grade so I only had one year to really learn some of the language. I was never in ESL in high school because I did not wanted to be in it. I use to say and keep saying that ESL is the easy way out to get a good grade and a waste of time because you really do not learn English in the class. My teachers did allow us to revise our papers for a higher grade, usually 3 times, which is why I passed English I always say. I also did learn about grammar rules and structure, but it is a topic I do know I need to practice more on it. And yes, I did learn about the five paragraph structure, but in all honesty never really followed it, because some teachers liked it some others did not.
My music taste I think is pretty weird, when I am working out I love listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and things like that, and on my own time I listen to Billy Joel, The Eagles, Queen and some Spanish music as bachata and merengue here and there. My favorite English artist I will say it is Billy Joel or The Eagles (Because of my favorite song of all times Hotel California) and of Spanish music Aventura. Now something I use a lot and I really mean it, is social media. I am a Snapchat, Instagram, and twitter fanatic, I use these apps for maybe an hour or more a day, but I am trying to reduce that because of college and so far I am doing a great job.
This semester I want to focus a lot on my writing, as English is my second language I firmly believe that I will always have room for improvement in it, and perfecting it is one of my college commitments. Lastly as a writer I would rate myself as a B- maybe even a C+ and it is because my grammar is not all there yet. Sometimes I find myself writing English in Spanish format. If I fix that and improve my grammar I firmly believe I would be a better writer than the one I am now.
